Älkää lukeko tätä: Irakissa jo yli miljoona uhria

Vuodesta 2003 USA:n marssista Irakiin alkanut kaaos on vaatinut jo yli miljoona ihmisuhria.
Uutistoimisto Reuters repäisi Opinion Research Business ORB –tutkimuslaitoksen raportista. Siinä haastateltiin paikan päällä yli 2 400 aikuista irakilaista, menetelmällä ”face-to-face interview”, maan 18 provinssissa. Joka viidennen irakilaisen taloudessa oli sodan aikana ja sen takia kuollut yksi tai useampi ihminen ”muuhun kuin luonnolliseen syyhyn”.

On suorastaan pyöristyttävää, miten esimerkiksi Bagdadin ilmapommituksille äskettäin (10.1.2008) saatettiin ummistaa silmät. Tämä tapaus, kun yli kaksi kymmentätuhatta kiloa räjähteitä tippui kaupunkilaisten niskaan ei ylittänyt uutiskynnystä Suomessa kuin satunnaisesti. Lyhyesti päästi Yle, Usari, ja olikohan vielä Aamulehti.
Eikä tämä tuho näy vieläkään, miljoona tuli täyteen syksyllä. ORB:n tutkimushaastattelut tehtiin v. 2007 elo- ja syyskuussa.

USA:n omien laskujen mukaan taas Irakissa sotatoimien seurauksena on kuollut vain ”muutama tuhat siviiliä”.

ORB:n lukukin on toki epävarma, "ORB originally found that 1.2 million people had died."
