Maria Kaisa Aula, Ombudsman for Children in Finland calls for restrictions on minors’ marriages. We can do it, becase we have also for high age of consent. It' s tool also important to enquire into what minors themselves think about marriage in order to ensure they are not being pushed into arranged marriages.It is a sign of civilization in which people growing up to protect from abuse.
Every year several dozens of under-18-year-olds get married in Finland. And according to child's ombudsman dozens of minors get married in Finland annually.
The youngest to date has been 12 years old. Such should not be possible to constitutional state! and now according to the United Nations Children’s Fund Unicef, Finland’s marriage legislation is in violation of children’s’ rights.
The Ministry of Justice is the institution that grants minors supposedly `special permits´ to marry. There is a claim that applicants are basically automatically granted marriage permits at present: between 1987 and 2011, some 1,500 youngsters aged 14-17 got married in Finland.
This body works almost automatically.
