Bruce Springsteen according to new VanityFair:
I always picture it as a car. All your selves are in it. And a new self can get in, but the old selves can’t ever get out. The important thing is, who’s got their hands on the wheel at any given moment? That's right,
but... old selves can’t ever get out?
But I found the model (by Jan van Rijckenborgh): our old ego may be diminished in the same proportion as the new inner selfhood grows from inside.
I found that this is possible; this model is a fruit of the old Gnostic wisdom.
