The Sunday Bulletin reported:

Talk about so called `cancel culture´.

So called cancel culture once honourable attempt to reimagine our society in a more equitable way now embodies all the worst aspects that religion has to offer but none of the beauty. As far as I can see, cancel culture is mercy’s antithesis. Political correctness has grown to become the unhappiest religion in the world.

Mercy is a value that should be at the heart of any functioning and tolerant society. 

He adds, mercy ultimately acknowledges that we are all imperfect and in doing so allows us the oxygen to breathe — to feel protected within a society, through our mutual fallibility. Without mercy a society loses its soul, and devours itself.

According to Cave tolerance allows the spirit of enquiry the confidence to roam freely, to make mistakes, to self-correct, to be bold, to dare to doubt and in the process to chance upon new and more advanced ideas. Without mercy society grows inflexible, fearful, vindictive and humourless.

Mercy allows us the ability to engage openly in free-ranging conversation — an expansion of collective discovery toward a common good. If mercy is our guide we have a safety net of mutual consideration, and we can, to quote Oscar Wilde, 

play gracefully with ideas.

Cancel culture’s refusal to engage with uncomfortable ideas has an asphyxiating effect on the creative soul of a society. Compassion is the primary experience — the heart event — out of which emerges the genius and generosity of the imagination.

Many can think also that "creativity is an act of love that can knock up against our most foundational beliefs, and in doing so brings forth fresh ways of seeing the world. This is both the function and glory of art and ideas. "

A force that finds its meaning in the cancellation of these difficult ideas hampers the creative spirit of a society and strikes at the complex and diverse nature of its culture.

Cancel Culture works behind, when:

Comes out a desire to cancel out a person or community from social media platforms. Some kind of half-narcissists make up the majority of the people who engage in cancel culture, and others who do this would include immature individuals.

Cancel Culture is characterised by the response of an evil individual when they are shown to be wrong. 

They will call on their followers to report the social media accounts of the person or group that did the criticising rather than discussing the criticism or showing by evidence where the criticism is incorrect.

Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.

Black Magic, by Yvonne P. Chireau,  looks at the origins, meaning, and uses of Conjure―the African American tradition of healing and harming that evolved from African, European, and American elements―from the slavery period to well into the twentieth century.

(University of California Press, 2003)

Illuminating a world that is dimly understood by both scholars and the general public, she describes Conjure and other related traditions, such as Hoodoo and Rootworking, writing richly detailed history that presents the voices and experiences of African Americans and shows how magic has informed their culture.

However, blues healing was primarily focused on the fixing of relationships that had gone awry, and the resolution of oppressive romantic entanglements.

I think ‘Immigrant Song’ was great. Having been to Iceland, where we wrote it, I could understand exactly how it caught me musically and the agitation of the music too. It was smooth, cool.

At radio station Q107 in 2010, Robert Plant shared the reason why this song The Immigrant Song (1970) meant so much to him.

We weren’t being pompous … We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal.

The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. ‘Immigrant Song’ was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.

The Doors' musikaliska värld innehåller reptiler och förhistoriska platser och så var ju Morrison förstås "the lizard king", sa som forskningsledaren.

I remember this time.
I was wondering, cause i listened to the albums and I was wondering like as i was listened and read about Peter Hammill´s text, and I had seen myself.
Some of the sauna-sessions and other stories, but this one is brilliant:

Morrissey and I used to go on reaky long walks in the forest.
I felt like I got pretty close to him and lived in his world for a year or so.  
And it's not a logical world. He lived by his own rules and you have to live those rules as well when you're with him. I'am a way  it´s bit sad, becouse it was an intense experience, then when you finished working with him, that was the end.

Jag växte upp med rockmusik, så jag kan känna det rakt igenom.

I will say `I have a huge crush on Beth Jeans Houghton´ like is saying by Anthony Kiedis, 49-year-old frontman of theRed Hot Chili Peppers, in interview with The Guardian.

So I do not like, more correctly, I do not care so much about Rock'and Roll, I do rather listening to Beethoven´s Fifth - much rather doing, then, so they say, roll over Beethoven.
The ambitious rock is my thing.
Over the four years ago, aged 18, Houghton was on hallowed ground. A frequent name on one-to-watch lists, her debut EP, Hot Toast Volume 1, a blend of gentle, pastoral pop underpinned by Houghton's astonishing vocals, was well received by everyone from NME, which latched on to its poppier elements, to Uncut magazine, which identified a folk ingénue rising.

Cornelis Vreeswijk dog 1987, vilket är 25 år sen. Vreeswijk köpte sin första gitarr i 1953 och hörde Georges Brassens på Radio Luxembourg (Jag lyssnade också på Radio Luxemburg fortfarande i början av 1970-talet).

1962 fick Cornelis dikten Den förtrollade telefonen publicerad i Dagens Nyheter.

Han är fortfarande Metronomes mest säljande artist. Han var en nederländsk-svensk trubadur, kompositör, poet och skådespelare som, efter sin död, kommit att räknas som en av Sveriges största trubadurer.
På fria tid ...
fanns en varm brännvins vän, och den uppriktiga knullare mannen.

År 1972 gjorde Cornelis en LP med Lars Forssells visor, `Visor, svarta och röda´.
Men skivan blev bra, med nya Brassens- och Boris Vian-tolkningar av Forssell.
Under perioden 1972–1974 bodde Cornelis och Bim delvis i Nederländerna och Frankrike och Cornelis uppträdde endast enstaka gånger i Sverige. Han gjorde turnéer i Danmark, Norge, Nederländerna, Belgien, Luxemburg och Frankrike.

Elämänmakua ja -hakua

Äskettäin on julkaistu kolme laajaa kansainvälistä kokoomatutkimusta, joissa on vedetty yhteen satoja rasvan ja sydäntaudin yhteyksiä käsitelleitä erillistutkimuksia. Me olemme maailma

Jotakin oli tapahtunut kesän aikana, huomasin sen kai. Loman loputtua ihmettelin miehen kireyttä työasioissa ja joitain kuin erikoisjärjestelyiltä tuntuneita juttuja.
Enkä tiedä, hyvä vai paha, pitävät nuo lehdet ajantasalla melkeinpä tahtomatta. Iso uutinen savolaismaisemassa.
Elämä on, niilläkin jotka elävät sitä toisten kautta.
Åbo Akademin professori Alf Rehnin, 38, muuten puhuu asiaa, miksi älykkö lukee Seiskaa (tai siteerauksia siitä, mikä on sama asia) .
Rehn arvioi uudessa Cityssä että viihdefiguurit kertovat meille paljon itsestämme. Ne kertovat siitä, että tarvitsemme vielä narreja. Oikeasti ketään ei kiinnosta tangokuninkaalliset. He laulavat kivasti ja ovat söpöjä, mutta heissä ei ole sisältöä.

Sen sijaan Johanna Tukiainen, joka ei osaa laulaa eikä näytellä, sisältää huomattavasti enemmän. Hän herättää keskustelua siitä, mitä julkisuus on, mitä me hyväksymme ja miten viihteestä tuli meille niin tärkeää. Laskin, että erään viihdelehden kotisivuilla Tukiaisesta on kirjoitettu yli 60 000 kommenttia. Tukiaisen vihaamisen ympärille on muodostunut subkulttuuri: jengi joka kutsuu itseään näädiksi ja joka käyttää omaa kieltä ja käsitteitään. Siellä on pitkää tarinankerrontaa, sellaista `fanfictionia´.

Samassa Sunniva Strömnesin kirjoittamassa haastattelussa näkyi muutakin mielenkiintoista. Alf Rehn oli, sanokaamme, luovuuskonsultteja kuunnellessa tehnyt terävänäköisiä havaintoja halpuudesta ja asian vierestä vedetyistä puolivillaisuuksista.

Riiteleminen on tärkeää, jos haluamme saada ideoita eteenpäin. Asiat eivät kehity niin, että kaikilla on kivaa koko ajan. Silti luovuudesta puhutaan, niin kuin se olisi jotakin kivaa. Halusin kirjoittaa siitä, miten hankalat ihmiset ovat tärkeitä ja siitä, että hankaluus ja kitka ovat hyviä asioita. Meidän pitäisi katsoa, mitä pelkäämme, jotta voimme kehittyä.

Hankaluudessa, toisin sanoen jännitteisyydessä ovat ainakin rockgenressä syntyneet merkittävimmät virstanpylväät.
Olen käyttänyt useita esimerkkejä, mutta nyt ajattelen bändiä nimetä Strawbs, sen historiaa ja luomisjaksoja. Voisin puhua yön yli.

Hyvä meno

Naapurin pikku-kundi on kasvanut, ja nyt rockistara. Seiska vertaa sitä Michael Monroehin.
Seiskaa merkittävämpi oli Ollin bändin noteeraus Mojo Magazinessa viime talvena.
Tosin englannin kielen opinnot Jyväskylän ylipistossa ovat jäissä, mikä varmaan ei vanhempia ilahduta. Puhuttiin tuossa muutama sana elämäntapapuolestakin.
On selvää, jos ihminen on, kuten Olli ns. hyvästä perheestä, on hänellä paremmat mahdollisuudet selvitä ammatin varjopuolista - ja ne varjot kyllä koskettavat jokaista jollakin tavalla. Kiertäminen, lentäminen, keikkojen jälkeiset angstit, fanit ..
Jos maneeri on uusi Iggy Pop, ihan katu-uskottavasi sitä ei olla hymypoikapatsas-pohjalta. Eikä tietysti kukaan ole odottanutkaan. Ja on tässä ihan omankin jälkikasvun kanssa tekemistä. Ilosaareen raittiusjulmiin näemmä menossa.

Mutta onkohan tuosta missään olut, että jo. v. 1931 sävelletty 80-luvun hittibiisi Muistan sua Elaine säveltäjä Vilho Alvar Kosunen on Kosusen Ollin isoisän isä. Allu myös näytteli, ja lauloi.
Musikaalista sukua muutenkin.
Mun isoisäni, juoppo trumpetisti ja kapellimestari, sekä nuori Kosusen Allu jo tunsivat.

Sedät jaksaa kohkata - kuolostakin

Seurasin hieman Ronnie James Dion elämästä ja keskikertaisen uran vaikutuksesta käytyä keskustelua. Näistä oikein tiedä, kuuntelen pitkiä aikajaksoja klassista musiikkia, ja joskus se tuntuu vain että jään sille tielleni, ainakin nämä rockörkit tuntuvat hyvin kaukaisilta.

Dion ääni on ollut joskus 1970-luvun alkupuolella poikkeuksellisen vahva.
Ja Diosta on nyt ollut yllättävän paljon asiaa, monille merkinnyt paljon. Muistan, että hän lauloi mm. Rainbow-platalla Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, 1978, ei mielestäni mitään ihmeellistä, mutta siis nousi esiin Elf:n laulajana.
Hänhän korvasi Sabbathissa Ozzy Osbournen, joka twitteröi asiasta, mutta jo Liken Minä, Ozzy, otti periaatekannan:

Minulla ei ole mitään pahaa sanottavaa seuraajastani, sillä Rainbow'ssa aiemmin laulanut Ronnie James Dio on hieno vokalisti. Hän ei kuitenkaan ole minä enkä minä hän. Siksi olisin toivonut, että jätkät olisivat kutsuneet bändiä vaikka Black Sabbath II:ksi. Ei siinä sen kummempaa.

Yllättävän lyhyitä merkityksellisen luovan vaiheen jaksot ovat sitten olleetkin.
Otan toisen esimerkin Jethro Tull - jonka johtaja ja luovavoima, lähinnä filosofiaa vetänyt Ian Anderson oli pedantti, ja ajoin suorastaan hysteerisen tarkka, ettei roinaa vedetty, eikä kai paljon alkoholiakaan.
Bändin This Was -albumista, v. 1968, alkanut täyspanoin luovajakso ulottui ainakin albumiin Stormwatch, 1979. Tusina albumia.
Strawbs pystyi melkein samaan tasonsa säilyttäen. Ja taas suht' luomupohjalta.

Although it's mostly metalheads like Him, The Rasmus and - God help us - Lordi that reach beyond Finland, there's no reason why any number of the more individual bands at Lost In Music couldn't do so too. There's space for so much more.
