The Lürssen shipyard group in Bremen has fallen victim to a cyber attack. As the Lürssen shipyards has announced, the group of companies became the target of a so-called ransomware attack over the Easter days. 

The luxury yacht manufacturers Lürssen and Blohm+Voss has previously stated in marketing communication that they are not interested in asking about the origin of the money offered by its customers.

Billions of dollars have already been laundered in the elite yacht manufacturing shipyard (e.g. money stolen from the Russian state treasury).

The Lürssen Group, based in Bremen-Vegesack, employs around 1,500 people. It is considered a world leader in the construction of luxury yachts and is also active in naval shipbuilding.

The company confirmed this at the request of buten un binnen. When asked, the police confirmed that criminal investigations had already been initiated. In addition, police cybercrime experts would advise the shipyard on how to deal with the incident.

In a ransom attack, attackers usually use malware to penetrate someone else's computer.

"In coordination with internal and external experts, we immediately initiated all necessary protective measures and informed the responsible authorities," 

said a company spokesman. The company did not want to say more at the moment.

Cyber attack apparently brings parts of the company to a standstill

According to information from buten un binnen, large parts of the shipyard operations have come to a standstill. The Lürssen-Kröger shipyard in Schleswig-Holstein is one of the few parts of the company that is currently still producing, according to the workforce.

A ransomware attack means that hackers penetrate a third-party IT system, for example a company. The data in the IT systems or on backup copies are encrypted. The company no longer has access to the data and operations are completely or partially paralyzed. The hackers demand money to decrypt the data.
