The Daily Telegraph tells that some youth political group with close ties to the Kremlin has been accused of paying out hundreds of thousands of pounds to Russian journalists to burnish the image of Vladimir Putin and smear the reputations of pro-democracy activists.
One message reportedly showed that pro-Kremlin online activists could make as much as 600,000 roubles (£12,555) for bombarding negative stories with comments that questioned the credibility of the journalist and praised Vladimir Putin.
Another appeared to show Nashi was ready to pay 10 million roubles (£210,000) in return for favourable coverage of its annual summer camp in two popular Russian tabloids.
